Plants can provide habitat, such as prickly plants that mammals won't go into. They can provide nesting material or food from fruits or nuts.
Some plants will attract insects which then attract birds.
In Australian gardens we plant a lot of grevilleas and banksias as they have lots of nectar for birds.
A birdbath is good; it must be cleaned and refilled regularly to keep risk of disease at a minimum. Place it up off the ground so cats can't get at it.
Grevillea plants are excellent for attracting honey eaters. Having a few species will ensure flowers at all times of year. |
